On naming things

A creature gets a name when it turns out to have a character, and not before. Most of them don't. The ones that do get a notecard, a line of description said completely straight, and a place in the archive under their own heading.

Everything else is logged plainly — spotted in its habitat, recorded, filed. That's not a lesser category. It's just a different kind of record.
